Mission:
General Sim Postings
Location: Captain's Quarters - SB51
Timeline: Before the Awards Ceremony
[ON]
Jasmine made sure to seal off her living area so only the Office part was accessible. She prepared things and then tapped her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Dodd, report to my quarters immediately =/\= she said.
=/\= On my way, captain. =/\= Dodd responded and started to make his way to her quarters.
Upon his arrival, Dodd paused a moment just a few steps away from the doors and took a moment to inhale deeply and collect his thoughts and focus on blocking out the thoughts of others on the ship so he could focus. He had several things to talk to the boss about, and one was possibly resurrecting his EV suit program that he has been tinkering with in the shadows, and he has revised and updated all his data. The program was now referred to as SANS or the Starfleet Adaptive Nanite Suit. However, he was not sure the specific reason Somers called him to speak to her at this moment, but he had a feeling.
=/\= Somers out =/\= she responded and signed off, and tidied up her desk a little, it was not long before her door chime sounded, she was in off-duty clothes, this meant shorts and a hoodie, her hair was in a ponytail, the outfit was a gift from her cousin and surprisingly she found it very comfy.
"ENTER,, she said when the chime sounded and the doors opened to allow her First Officer to enter "Please have a seat, Remy", she intoned to the chair in front of her desk.
"Thank you, Captain," Dodd replied as he took a seat. "I am glad we have gotten Arth over with, and I am looking forward to our downtime as I have some work to do for a project I have had on the back burner, so to speak."
Looking up at him "that is what I wanted to speak to you about, I am authorising you to restart the N.E.V project back up, to be done in your own time not when you are on duty, also I recently found out that Lieutenant Benson is working on her own suit it looked a lot like the suit used in the old 2D film Iron Man. But if that style can be used in your NEVS project, and using nanotech, still have the suit deploy from a wristband on a crewmember's list, I will want you to work with Benson again in your own time, both of you," Somers said
"How interesting, I have been tinkering with the project in the little bit of spare time when I have gotten a chance here and there. Since I am now single, my mind is clearer. I have adjusted the name of my project. I now call it Starfleet Adaptive Nanite Suit." Dodd replied. "I would be happy to get Benson and maybe Hawksley in on the project if that would be good with you?"
"If Leland can find the time, as he might be celebrating after the Awards he will be getting, but in any case, I will ask him at least two days after the Awards Ceremony, just in case" she said. "As for who you assign, remind them it is something to be done in your spare time, not while you are on duty, Capiche?" Jasmine added.
"Understood, ma'am," Dodd replied. I am just happy to be able to finally get this project back in the spotlight and hopefully make it a possibility, as it will be a huge benefit to not only our little Tomcat but all of Starfleet."
Taking a moment, "So I would also like to take some leave to collect myself and do some business that I need to address on a few matters that have been on my back burner since before this last mission. Would you be okay with me doing so?" Dodd asked his commanding officer.
Looking at Dodd closely as if studying him, "After the Awards Ceremony, you can have your LOA, how does that sound?" Somers said
"I sense you are attempting to get a reading on me," Dodd stated firmly. "I am just feeling down about how the mission went over all. I had someone leave me just as the mission was starting, and then the mission went sideways with the Orions coming in. At least we got Lee back, but we lost two crew members. I feel that having some time away will let me come to terms with myself about all that has happened. Then being able to revive my pet project will also help me therapeutically move forward." Dodd added after sensing her trying to get a read on him. He knew she was looking out for his well-being as a strong captain should do for their support staff and crew.
*sighs* "You okay with starting your LOA after the awards Ceremony?" She asked, "I honestly did not know you were having trouble Remy, Sorry to hear this, a first command can be hard, I know, you should have seen the mistakes I made when I first started, I had no formal training and had to learn on the go", Somers said.
"Ma'am, I am not depressed due to the mistakes I made; I will own them. I am depressed that we could not save Arth and keep it the society it deserved to be." Dodd replied. "I feel the weight of the emotions the citizens of Arth cried out as we left the system and they had their first taste of what the Orion Syndicate had in store for them."
Dodd was still stoic in his facial features as a tear rolled down his left cheek. He knew he had made many mistakes on this last mission, but he could not let go of the emotions of the unsuspecting citizens who would likely perish now due to the Orion Syndicate.
"There is nothing we can do for Arth now, Commander. The Syndicate introduced them to Warp before they were ready; there are elements on Arth that will take advantage and willingly work with the Syndicate. Starfleet has been made aware of this, and Starfleet Intelligence will take it from here, but you still have not answered my questions, Commander," Somers responded, sighing.
"So I am sorry for not directly answering your questions," Dodd replied, and his facial expression changed slightly. "I would be willing to take my leave after the awards ceremony, and I am looking forward to bringing my project back into the light. I appreciate all your support and guidance in my career thus far. I only hope that I have not offended you by not being direct with my responses, Ma'am." Dodd's face had shifted from his stoic look to a grimace and back to a stoic look. He was so focused on not letting his emotions kick in that he hoped Jasmine would trigger them.
"Not to worry, Number One and no, you have not offended me, kudos on holding them emotions in check there, Remy, but I think if there is nothing else, we are done here", Somers said.
"I have been working on myself, and I have learned that with all the loss I have endured, I am getting better at channelling my emotions and using them to allow me to read my crew better without acting upon every other emotion I pick up on," Dodd replied. "I will conduct my research via communications with those I need to wrap things up with, and hopefully, I will be in a better state when I return to lead at your side."
*Nods* "Very well, see you next at the Awards Ceremony and then after you are officially on LOA" Somers said.
With that, she watched her First Officer get up and leave her room and quietly sighed, realising she may be solo on the bridge for the next mission. When he was gone, she entered the data and updated things on her terminal, then began to catch up on other stuff she had been putting off.
