Mission: General Sim Postings
Location: SB 51 Lounge/Conference Room
Timeline: Before Dodd's Mission

Hawksley was looking over the various doughnuts with a tall silver mug of coffee in his hand. The smell of the freshly baked scones and varieties of cultural delights was a nice spread.

This would serve as a casual meet-up and chat over something.

Leland had pads around the conference table, highlighting the new technical specs that the new Tomcat would be sporting. Leland had just begun trials of the new Warp Core that would be employed on the Akira Class vessel. His mentor, Lt. Commander Paul Sharpe, was doing an excellent job in ensuring everything that needed to be completed and checked over was being completed.

Hawksley, biting into a Boston cream doughnut, was caught off guard as he turned to see one of his fellow Engineering crew mates enter the room. The large black table with soft leather chairs all around.

To the right was a panoramic view of the USS Tomcat, with various worker bees performing automated tasks, welding, logistics, and assembly from the space frame outward. Work was being completed in record time, thanks to the new Starship development and manufacturing methods.

"Mf..." Leland swallowed, surprised. "Welcome!" He broke into a welcoming grin.

The door slid open as I stepped toward Thex wearing the skant version of the uniform. " Boss, how is the girl doing?" She asked her smile able to cheer up anyone as she took a coffee and a doughnut.

Leland recognized that voice anywhere. “Thex!” He was happy to see her. He hoped her few, albeit short days of shore leave were going well. Leland knew that he and Lilli needed the time off, and in a way, the work he was completing on the Tomcat retrofit was a theme park in itself.

“Glad to see you made it.” Hawksley glanced at the table. “Have a seat, grab something to eat. The replicators on Starbase know how to replicate better offerings than our sad engineering one. There is coffee, drinks… Tell me.” Leland was interested. Hawksley lent a grin. “How has your shore leave here on the Station been so far?” Leland was always interested in the happenings of his fellow crewmates. They all felt like one big family. They were!

" Very well. " Thex said with a warm grin on her blue face. " There was a sector competition for Orion dancing. I won a gold and two silver ribbons." She beamed with pride.

Making her way through the Starbase corridors, Sabrina carried a small satchel over her shoulder with a collection of containers inside. She had been quite delighted when she received notice from Lieutenant Hawksley with a meet-up for the Engineering team, as she wanted to fit in with them as well.

Entering into the room, she spotted the others in the department that she had looked up early, "Hola. I hope you don't mind, but I brought some things that I made." She pulled out a few containers, "These are lobster & crab masa empanadas, some Campechanas and some spicy fermented carrot-chilli-miso muffins. Although it isn't the right date, I made some Pan de muerto too."

" They sound lovely," Thex said standing up and offering her hand to the new arrival. " Lieutenant JG Thex XO of engineering. Nice to meet you, Sabrina."

Hewitt had walked into the conference room. “Howdy, folks.” He immediately noticed Thex, Leland, and the new addition to their small but capable engineering team.

“Leland. Thex.” Hewitt had walked across the table, noticing Sabrina. “You must be Sabrina. Welcome to the Tomcat. Well. Not the ship. But the team.”

Leland turned and grinned. He stood beside Thex, as all three greeted Sabrina. “Sabrina. It is a pleasure to have you on our team. I’m Leland, Chief. This food smells terrific. You cook?”

Sabrina smiled, "Thanks. Sorry, I'm Second Lieutenant Sabrina Velazquez from the Marines and I am also going to be doing work in Engineering at times. Yeah, it's a bit of a hobby. I was born in Baja California in Mexico and spent lots of time on Mars too."

“Thex. As always, good to see you.” Hewitt smiled at the Engineering XO.

After the introductions, Leland gestured for everyone to have a seat at the table. He waited till everyone was comfortable and had a chance to grab the excellent food that Sabrina and others brought.

“Well.” Hawksley took a drink of his warm cup of coffee to start. He gestured to the PADDs in front of everyone. “As you can see. The new Tomcat we are working on will have adaptive armour technology, multiple new phaser banks, sensor clusters, and updated LCAR technology to third-generation bio-neural gel packs. We will also have intuitive interfaces for central engineering systems, correcting and making many effortless split decisions.

“Have a gander.” Hawksley was happy; everyone could see what Utopia Planetia had in mind for the Akira Class vessel upgrades. “Now is the time for suggestions, any ideas we can incorporate into the new class while I work with Lt. Commander Sharpe.”

Having a look through the plans, Sabrina grinned with amusement, "Lieutenant, I've unofficially seen a copy of these before, although it was a bit still in development at the time. Have a look at the bottom right in the corner where the plan designers are listed. One of them, Joselyn Velazquez, is my mum."

“That is awesome,” Leland replied. He checked the name. “You don’t say. Luckily, you got to be aboard an Akira, which your mother helped design. Velazquez.” Leland then thought it over.

“Come to think of it. I may have met your mother at an engineering conference on Talos IV.”

Thex looked out a whistle as she looked over a padd with all of the upgrades the ship's refit was getting. " Her new battledress is going to be able to take a beating. How are her engines will they be getting an upgrade? " She asked her boss as she reached for another doughnut.

Sabrina grinned at Leland, "Nice. It is most likely that she loves going to conferences to speak as she gets to have a captive audience that can't run. She is a bit hard to miss too being a tall Swedish blonde. I love my mum, but sometimes, she forgets my dad and I don't speak Swedish. So we got in the habit of leaving translator units around."

Leland reached for another doughnut as well. He was happy to see the interest from Thex. “We are receiving a new set of neodymium crystals, supercharged for multiple cruise modes.” He nodded. “There will be a new set of micro extruded terminal truss assembly to the nacelles, supporting multiple new vector assault modes.” He raised his eyebrows several times, highlighting his quirky excitement about the updated tech.

Chewing the doughnut, he dunked it in his coffee, taking a bite. Swallowed. He then thumbed the padd in front of him. “Lt. Commander Sharpe also has proposed a set of 72 aero drop pods to be used for the Marines. New mission parameters call for their need. I would assume they will also be replacing life support pods.”

“Fascinating,” Hawksley replied to Velazquez. “Tell me. What do you see here? The current Tomcat specs overlap with the new series. What would you add or augment.” Leland then turned to Thex as well. “This is for you to input as well, Thex. What are your ideas?” Hawksley was in the process of redesign. He didn’t want to overlook his crew mates. Hawksley valued their input.

" Hum," Thex said as she looked over the plans. " We could do with adding some more armour around the escape pods." She added highlighting the area.

"Yes. That was an area of concern for me as well." Leland paused and rubbed his forehead. Taping in the comment from Thex, he added it to the 'do list.'"

"Sabrina. Since you are with the Marines contingent onboard, do you see any technical specs on the Marine Aero Drop ships that you may want to chime in?"
