Location: SB51 Promenade

Lamia strolled along the promenade, it seemed like ages since she’d last been off ship which wasn’t helping with her future decision regarding leaving her son whilst the ship was on a mission. She was so lost in thought she didn’t see the woman she almost ran into.
Kah’lyn was exploring the promenade whilst her new ship was in dock, she was going to be moving aboard shortly but right now she wanted to take what time she had to go on a little shopping spree. She paused mid walk as she was almost knocked into by another woman.
“Oh..I’m so sorry!” Lamia gave an apologetic smile. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
“That’s alright. Don’t worry about it.” Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “I’m Kah’lyn Chiara, I’m new around here.”
“Lamia Kildare, Chief Counsellor of the Tomcat. It’s nice to meet you Kah’lyn.” She offered a warm smile. “Oh and this is my son Wyatt.”
“It’s nice to meet you both.” Kah’lyn crouched down taking a look at little Wyatt. “He’s gorgeous!”
Lamia nodded. “He is indeed, it’s a whole new learning curve though. I’m still figuring it all out.”
“I’ve no doubt” Kah’lyn nodded as she stood up. “I’m joining the Tomcat too, Infiltration and computer systems specialist.”
“Quite the combination.” Lamia smiled as she motioned to some nearby seats. “I think you’ll be kept busy enough considering the type of missions we get thrown into.”
“No doubt.” Kah’lyn nodded in agreement. “Infiltration isn’t for the weak of heart, but my mix of genetics tends to help. We Betazoids come in useful in our roles.”
“That we do” Lamia grinned. “I hope you don’t mind me asking but you’re part Romulan?”
Kah’lyn nodded as they both sat down to chat. “That’s correct, I was raised by a Starfleet family after I was found in the wreckage of a shuttle crash, they adopted me. I was raised a fleet kid so it seemed only right to join Starfleet and follow in my parents footsteps.
Lamia nodded as she listened. “I’m sorry about your real parents, it must be difficult not knowing anything about them.”
“Kind of” Kah’lyn nodded. “I’m guessing my mother was Betazoid, but I could be totally wrong. Of course no one comes forward from the Romulan empire, hell they might not even know who my father, or mother is. I’d be an outcast in their eyes anyway.”
“Fortunately not on Betazed though, and not in the eyes of the Federation either.” Lamia offered.
“Exactly” Kah’lyn nodded. “I’m guessing your husband serves aboard ship?”
Lamia nodded. “Christopher Kildare, he’s a marine demolitions expert.”
“Cripes! That’s quite the career.” Kah’lyn grinned. “Silly question, does it worry you?”
Lamia paused. “It does, especially now we have Wyatt, but Chris knows his job, and I trust him to come home to me in one piece.” She offered a wry smile. “He’s good at what he does.”
Kah’lyn nodded. “Sorry that was a terrible question!”
Lamia waved it off. “No, it’s fine. If I hadn’t wanted to answer I wouldn’t have. Right now the hard part is Wyatt, ships rules say no children onboard after six months bonding time. I’m finding that a struggle right now.”
Kah’lyn nodded. “I can imagine, I’d like kids myself but between my career choice and now hearing that it’ll make any decisions my mate Tevik and I make in the future all the more difficult.”
Lamia sighed. “Don’t let my reservations put you off, I lost a daughter a while back so it’s made me all the more sensitive to having to let go of Wyatt. I know it’ll only be temporary, but it’s difficult.”
“I’m so sorry about your daughter!” Kah’lyn offered a caring gaze. “I can’t imagine what that must have been like. It definitely puts life into perspective though doesn’t it?”
*nodding* “It does indeed. So, have you been aboard the Tomcat yet?” Lamia asked curiously.
“No, not yet. I will be soon though, at the moment I’m just orienting myself to being here and getting everything organised for boarding ship.”
“Well if you need any help be sure to let me know.” Mia smiled warmly. “It can be daunting boarding ship for the first time, but I’m sure you’ll settle in alright. Oh and dont forget the customary psych evaluation once you’re settled in. I hate to have to chase people.”
Kah’lyn grinned. “Understood Counsellor, but there are areas I’m not allowed to discuss. Part of the job I’m afraid.”
“Of course” Lamia nodded. “I wouldn’t be asking about your assignments without the proper authorisations anyway.” She looked around. “Anyway I plan on doing a little shopping before I go back, see what I can find that I like.”
“Have fun” Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “I have to organise and get onboard ship. I’ll no doubt see you again soon.”
Lamia nodded as she stood up. “It’s been nice meeting you Kah’lyn. Anytime you need anything my door is always, at least mostly always, open.”
