Mission: General Sim Postings
Location: Planet Carraya/Tal'Shiar facility
Timeline: A Few Decades before current events

[ON]

Both women kept watch while the tech worked, and this is where things went south when the base alarms went off, signalling that the dead guards had been discovered. A large group of Romulan guards headed their way, and the first group went down quickly, but the surprise was lost, and the next group came on firing.

As Somers paused to reload, she tapped her sub-dermal communications unit located behind her left ear. =/\= Red Death to Reaper =/\= Somers began contacting Denning.

Hearing a beep in his auditory canal seemed louder than the intruder alarms, but he blocked out those alarms and activated his sub-dermal =/\= Reaper here, what is up, Red? =/\= Denning’s asked in response.

=/\= Need backup at my location; it seems that the Rommies know our main target =/\= As she was saying this, she was firing again, allowing Graves to reload her power pack.

=/\= Acknowledged, Red, just finishing off the explosives and I will be there directly, Reaper out =/\=

When the link had closed, she noted the charging Romulans had halted their advance and had begun to hunker down and fire from cover.

“Finally they have learned,” Somers said, looking at the dead Romulans outside the room on the floor where they charged and fell. “Reloading,” She said and quickly reloaded. With heavier weapons, the Romulans once again advanced, and in the hail of fire Graves was mortally wounded, but this time the tech had finished and had joined them in the defence.

Looking really concerned, Alex spoke to the tech “Let’s get behind cover,” she said, and both dragged the mortally wounded Graves back into cover, but before they did, Somers lobbed two grenades out; one was a flash bang, the other a Photon grenade. There were many screams, with the light and noise followed by a big explosion.

The fighting had paused, and while the tech kept watch, Alex was kneeling with her best friend's head in her lap “dammit Annie, why did you have to go and get shot?” Somers asked.

Looking up at her friend with a dazed type of look as blood quickly exited her wound, “You must leave me, Alex; we are all expendable in this. Get the data out,” Graves said in a weak voice as she touched her blood-covered hand to her friend's cheek.

Tears streaming down her face, Alex was at a loss as to what to do or say; she had gone head to head with Klingons in sparring matches. But she was on her first combat mission and her first loss; she thought that if one of her teammates fell, she could have handled it and if it was another one she barely knew. However, Annie had been her friend in boot camp, and while neither one was any relation to the other, they were friends closer than sisters were and thought of each other as such.

“Annie, NO, you can’t die on me, this is not right *heavy crying* GET UP!” Somers shouted and glanced over the wound; her logical mind told her that her friend was a lost cause, but her open heart would not accept the fact that Annie was not long for this world.

The Tech Marine, like Alex, had his back to the door, shaking her shoulder “C’mon, Red, we gotta move!” he was exclaiming, and both did not see two Romulans enter and aim their rifles at them.

Both were shocked and looked back as they heard disruptor fire directly behind them and saw two Romulans fall to the ground and Reaper standing over the dead Romulans. Alex returned her attention to Annie, who was looking at something in the distance.

“Alex, Alex!” Annie spoke faintly, unaware that Reaper was watching this unfold; he was a career officer but not without compassion.

“What is it?” Somers asked, tears freely running down her face, making clean lines in her otherwise dirty face. She was a kid, goddammit, and here she was cradling her best friend's head in her lap, covered in blood.

“You must leave, I ask that you remember me on this day every year, keep my memory alive and I will never be far,” Graves said then stared into the distance “I got to go now Alex. My Grandparents are waiting there for me, I see them there waiting and smiling” she said pointing at the far wall, all looked but they saw nothing “I loved you Alex from the day we me, I had so many things to say to you and now time has caught up with me and now I will never say them but *voice gets weaker* remember me ever…” Graves slurred as her life left her body and her hand slowly fell away from Alex’s face.

Denning’s a practical Marine, looked at Somers, who was frozen in place as she realised her friend was dead; she had been an advocate of only using experienced troops on such a mission. But Intel said this would be a cakewalk, and SFMC command had cleared green marines on the mission.

“Red, we have to go!” Denning’s announced, but got no response, so he had one of the Marines drag Somers away, screaming.

“NO, I cannot leave her; we must take her back with us, Annie Nooooooo!” She exclaimed, struggling and reaching out to the body lying on the floor.

Denning’s knew that this kid would need counselling, but only if they could get out of here alive. The Marine put her down, and he slapped her hard on the cheek and got up in her face.

“Listen, Red, get your damn act together. You are a Marine, and we have to get out of here. Your friend is dead; it is sad, but mourn later,” Denning’s finished.

Alex was looking at the Major, eyes wide in shock, and her hand went to her reddening cheek, even with tear streaks Denning’s saw a new steel behind the kids eyes and knew that she had a tough road ahead of her and only she could recover from the loss but she was forever changed by such a loss.

“Yes, sir,” Alex said, and Denning’s released her; she pulled out her Commando knife and moved on ahead.

So sudden were her movements that the other three Marines were slow to react. As they saw the redhead advance, she shot her disruptor with one hand, and as the rifle was only used in one hand, the shot on the Romulan was not a kill; Alex used her knife to slit the Romulan’s throat, then moved on.

The Major and the others shared a look with each other and rushed to catch up with her; they rounded the corner and saw her taking on four Romulans with a quarterstaff; they all wondered where she got it. While this thought and others were going through their minds, Alex finished, and all could hear a “Thwack* as the staff rendered the last Romulan unconscious.

Looking back at them as she closed the staff, *schnikkt, schnikk* was the sound that could be heard of the collapsing quarterstaff “Let’s get out of here,” Somers said; the pain of loss in her voice was still there, but she had managed to pull herself together.

In that moment a future leader was born...

The major shrugging followed Alex out as she replaced the smaller staff on the back of her belt as she passed doors and consoles; one of the other marines picked up Annabelle’s body and put it over his shoulder and got a thank-you nod from Alex.
