Mission:
General Sim Postings
Location: Various
Timeline: A Few Decades before current events

With that, Simms continued with the briefing…
“You are not the only one to ask that. It seems they captured a Dominion Vorta Cloning facility during the end of the Dominion War; now they figured out how to recode the cloning units to accept Romulan DNA. Hence, a Marine team is being formed and should you get captured, Starfleet will deny all knowledge of participation. You will be given non-descript combat outfits with no badges or insignia or rank; you will be given non-Starfleet weapons and communications devices,” Simm added. He noted Somers took this in her stride; her companion, however, was not as at ease.
“What are you saying, Sir?” Annabelle asked.
“He is saying, Annie, that should we fail or get captured, we are on our own. As we are currently at peace with the Romulans, a mission like this against the Tal Shiar would be looked unfavourably on by the Romulans. They may not have any love for the Tal Shiar too, but those Agents are Romulan. Should we survive this, you should watch an old film, Mission Impossible; this is essentially what this mission is, and they hope we will succeed, but we are essentially written off until our return” Alex then paused.
“In the End, they want deniability; imagine the political fallout if it failed and it was revealed that the strike team were SFMC”, Somers said.
“Ah! I see a Kamikaze mission, interesting,” Graves responded, suddenly understanding.
Again Simms and Donohue shared a surprised look at Somers' grasp of the mission parameters. Simms was really interested in Alex, but the question was, could she be coaxed out of the Marines into Starfleet Intelligence?
*clears his throat* “Your assigned mission is to go in there and download the data and destroy that facility and get out, simple as that”, Simms rejoined.
“Obviously there will be some expected friendly losses. For what size team?” Somers asked.
Also looking more closely at Alex, the Major realised that she was what her Psyche review termed Alpha Female type one; if her forwardness and bluntness did not ruin her career, then she would go far, but not as an enlisted Marine Corporal. “It will be a twelve-man team, two of those members will be tech Marines. Expected losses after all anticipated scenarios put the losses at least 3%; that is the estimated projection, Marine,” Donohue answered.
“For such a small team, that is quite high; this mission is obviously more dangerous than we all know,” Alex stated.
“Indeed, Marine, but we both know those are just estimates and that things rarely go as planned”, Simms said
Looking at Simms, “Is it, sir? I would not know, as this would be my first Black Ops mission. What of the Tal Shiar Operatives, sir?
Simms, the Starfleet Intelligence Officer, looked at Alex blandly “Expendable,” was all he said.
Both women knew what that meant; such a secret op could leave no witnesses. It was not going to be a pretty mission; both women understood this.
“Upon leaving here, you will both be full Marine Corporals, and you will report to supply stores for your gear and then to a barracks assigned to the team; then you will do some training for the mission. Your Mission Commander will be Major Dennings and the XO, Marine Captain Jenkins. *pause* Here are the details of your barracks,s and unless you both have any more questions, you are dismissed,” he said, handing a security card and details to each woman, who placed them in pockets to keep them safe.
Both nodded and stood, indicating they had no questions as the lights got brighter; both saluted, and the Major responded, but only Annabelle left the room. Alex noted a look from the Intel Officer, and the Major excused himself.
He waited till he and Alex were alone, and then began, “You have a knack for seeing things in a certain way; going by your service jacket, you can be analytical and quite observant and, as shown in this office, blunt and sarcastic, yet you do not do it in malice. I want to make you a proposition, Somers!” Simms said ominously.
Looking at the SFI agent, puzzled, “That is? oO Probably demob after the mission for my comments Oo she thought to herself, knowing that normally her comments would be frowned upon.
“I would like to offer you the option to join Starfleet Intelligence as a planner and analyst.” he watched her closely for a reaction; apart from eyes widening in surprise, she made no show of emotion.
She was actually shocked; very few could shock her “WOW! I thought I was going to be in trouble for my comments; I know they were out of order for someone of my rank. Will the Major do anything for such comments? But as for the offer, I would need to think about it; also, I am a little too green at the moment,” she responded and expected further reply, but Simms just gave a knowing smile.
“Do not worry about the Major; he actually found it refreshing. The other members of your team were stuffy and too prim and proper to use the old saying, you were a breath of fresh air, and the Major was pretty much the same at your age. *pause* The offer will remain open indefinitely. When you are ready, contact me via the SFI Office at Starfleet HQ, ask for me, and if I am available, I will respond. If there is nothing further, Corporal, you can go. I think we kept the good Major out of his office for long enough,” Simms finished with a smile.
“Yes, sir,” Somers responded and gave a polite and shallow bow “I will think it over”, she said as she made it to the door.
“I expected nothing less from you. Good luck on the mission,” Simms said and watched the Marine leave and the Major return.
