“Computer, reserve Holodeck 02 for 1900 hours. Lieutenant Commander Leland Hawksley. Holodeck companion Dodd.”
Hawksley was seated at his desk. He remembered agreeing to spend some time with his old Tomcat mentor and friend, Dodd.
They had both felt it had been forever since they had time to be like they used to, with time on their hands down in engineering for what seemed like years.
“Time slot is in use.” The Main Computer replied.
“What?” Hawksley frowned. He swivelled in his seat and checked his PADD. “Crewman Melinda Burgeo.”
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhh…” Leland groaned. Melinda was a files coordinator. She coordinated the ILC-General parallax matrix computer cores. She was smart, just. Yeah.
“Computer, can you please shunt Melinda’s Holodeck 02 at 1900 hours to Holodeck 03 at 1900 hours? State this was a Managerial Change if she asks for clarification. Enter… 1187.”
He looked around for an excuse… “That means ours is clear for Holodeck 02. Melinda gets shunted to Holodeck 03. Originally, Lt. JG. Kyle Dowel was using deck 03 at 1900 hours. Have Melinda send Kyle the 1187. The 1187 states that Melinda needed Kyle's time for the holodeck to undergo a higher-level security and/or training event.
“Complete.” The computer replied. “Notifications and changes of times, allotment times have been updated to all relevant Holodeck Parties.”
“Parties… Indeed.” Hawksley grunted as he kicked his feet up on the desk in Engineering. He took out a sucker from his desk and started to type up a message to Dodd.
“Dodd. It’s time we relaxed. I’ve booked some prime holodeck time to relax, chill, unwind, and have a few coolers. Who knows? It's going to be at a nice Minnesota Lake House of my friend. He has a great program. Let me know if you're in for some time to relax. You need it. – Your Bro Hawk.”
I few moments later Dodd was in receipt of a message on his personal PADD. The message came from young Leland Hawksley. Dodd read it and got a grimace on his face. A memory of the last time he was on the holodeck with Hawksley and a few other guys lead to some serious relaxation and a little too much release of indiscretions. Dodd replied by typing a message back. "Dude, this would be a great time to chill out by a lakeside and veg even if it is for a brief period. Brother, you read my mind for a non-telepath. When and which Holodeck?"
Dodd then looked up and saw his duty schedule and realized he was so overdo for a short recess. And he could not think of a better mate to hang with other than the one he felt like was more family than a crewmate.
Hawk had hit the terminal screen playfully. "Hah!" He clasped his hands together. He now had Dodd roped in. It would be a nice program. The Aurora lights, Bonfires, Elk, Deer, moose, black bears, in the version of the Program they would be exploring, enduring, is some place in Canada, up North.
"Good. I am glad you can make it!" He replied with a grin, entering it into the computer.
Leland paused at his desk watching the terminal and the message sent to do. "Shit." He then re-entered a text to Dodd in their secure channel. "Remember to bring bear spray and mosquito spray. Those things the animals are in the program, just... just not the spray stuff." He finished and hit send with a total grin.
