Mission: General Sim Postings
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: After psyche evaluation

[ON]

Her evaluation of Emily Janeway over, Lamia made her way down to sickbay to discuss the unique nature of Janeway’s case with Dr Ross. That, and to get herself something for the thumping headache she now had after the onslaught of emotions Emily had thrown at her.

Walking into Sickbay she made her way across to Ross offering the best smile she could muster. “Doctor Ross, Hi I’m Lamia Kildare Chief Counsellor. Apologies for not having had much chance to get here to see you since you arrived onboard.”

Gavin Ross glanced up from his PADD, the soft glow of medical data reflecting off his face. The steady hum of Sickbay’s equipment buzzed in the background, spotting Lamia Kildare approaching. Her smile looked forced, like she was pushing through something. He set the PADD to the side of his desk. Standing a little straighter in his pristine Starfleet medical uniform, and offered a warm, professional nod.

“Counselor Kildare, good to finally put a face to the name,” he said, his tone confident but measured, carrying just a touch of his usual wit. “No worries about the late visit—Sickbay’s been a revolving door since I got here. The Tomcat keeps us on our toes, doesn’t it?” He kept his demeanor strictly professional and businesslike.

Motioning toward a nearby chair near the console, he invited her to take a comfortable seat in the office. “So, what brings you down here, Counselor? Anything I can get you? A Coffee, a Tea. A Diet Coke? I’m guessing it’s either Janeway’s case or that headache you’re wearing like a badge of honor.” His voice was light, but his gaze turned clinical, already noting the subtle signs of strain. “And, if you don’t mind me saying, you’re managing that pregnancy glow pretty well—about six months, right? Gotta say, you’re handling it like a pro.” Dr. Ross was enthusiastic about the near delivery of the Kildaire Family.

“You’re very observant Doctor, and thank you.” Lamia took a seat. “I had an appointment with Emily Janeway, and the sheer strength of her emotions bore right through every defence I had. I’ve got a thumping headache now.” She offered a wry smile. “I’m not worried about me, just my baby I know stress doesn’t help especially in later stages of pregnancy.”

Ross crossed his forearms, and "burnout is a very real thing, more so when you are in late-stage pregnancy and still working.” Ross looked at his wristwatch as he took out his tricorder and began his scan over Lamia's body.

Lamia waited patiently letting Ross do what he needed to do. “I have cut back on my hours a little, once I reach 28 weeks I’m planning on cutting back more. If I trigger maternity leave then I may be required to stay back at the Starbase, which isn’t what I want, so I intend to be available here for as long as I can.”

"Understood." Ross acknowledged that Lamia wanted to continue her officer role and not take maternity leave. " Just remember. Don't limit yourself, if you feel you need the time things can always be modified."

"May I?" Gavin placed in some information to the specialized mineralization and cellular pathology of the newborn, checking and re-checking amino chains for issues etc. As he then reached to have access to Lamia's uniform.

Pulling over a cart with two nozzles on them, Ross had attached them to either side of Lamia's growing belly. "So tell me, how have the morning aches been? Are you starting to feel queasiness, it can happen more or less earlier for Betazoids.

“Ohh they came and went weeks ago” Lamia smiled. “I had morning sickness, but I guess it wasn’t as severe as I was really expecting. Now it’s more an aching back, swollen ankles, and tiredness. It’s also undecided whether my pregnancy will be 9 months or 10, because my baby is half Betazoid.”

"Correct. And thus would make you, of course, Wife to Sergeant Major Christopher "Chris" Kildare of the 95th." He tapped his noggin. I have a photographic memory of the entire crew." Gavin stated.

"Now, let's get you a mild anesthetic which will wipe away all those aches. Sound good, Counselor?" Ross reached for a hypospray, a non-habit-forming one, and you should sleep better, longer.

“As long as it’s safe for my baby, which of course you’ve already considered” Lamia offered a wry smile.

“Counselor, it is a naturally derived pain reliever and antiseptic that detoxifies the body as well. There is no side effect, I can guarantee you.” Ross didn’t mind the question. It was perfectly normal to be cautious while carrying a child. He regarded Lamia.

“So, tell me.” Ross helped Lamia sit down in the office in a more comfortable chair, being supportive. “You’ve come to discuss our mutual patient. Major Emily Janeway?”

Ross then sat down by his computer and pulled up Emily’s records on his medical files. “Can I get you a tea, anything to eat?” Gavin had asked as he absent-mindedly reached for a replicated can of Diet Coke, still sitting in the replicator next to his desk.

“A lemonade would be lovely, thank you” Lamia smiled and nodded. “Yes, Emily Janeway. She’s a very…complicated individual. Even I’m struggling with the sheer anger and rage that’s bubbling inside her. I can understand why, but controlling it is another matter entirely.”

Gavin nodded as he taped the desired order. Within moments, the device materialized a cold lemonade, complete with lemon and green in the glass, accompanied by ice and a straw.

“Passing the drink over to Counselor Kildare for her, Ross then sat opening his Diet Coke himself, taking a sip, and then regarded Lamia’s commentary.

“Fascinating. See. You get to see them when they are released. I observe a patient mostly while they are medicated in ‘the Bay.’ He affectionately referred to the Sick Bay.

“What kind of psychiatric medications, if any, have been prescribed for Emily and by whom?” Ross checked for any recent updates on his padd regarding Emily in the Medical system, which would have been connected to counselling in this instance.

“I haven’t prescribed anything, I prefer to liaise with medical first plus I don’t think Emily would appreciate being under the influence of anything that might affect her performance on duty.” Lamia paused. “I think it’s best we work together to help her, in the best way we can.”

Ross had offered a universal smile. He agreed. It was nice to know what medications he was dealing with, considering the well-being of his patients.

“So, these emotions run strong. I have normalized Emily's stress hormone blood profile, and she is fine across the board.” Gavin rubbed at his chin.

“So what kind of related stress, any other manifestations you’ve observed, Counselor?” Gavin asked.

“Emily is completely lost in the memories of her temporal trauma, the memories of what was, and what is. She’s fighting herself for control over those memories; her anger and emotions are practically off the charts! It’s difficult for me to fight past those emotions.”

"Strictly from a Medical to Medical basis... We have no concerns for any attempts to take one's life?" Ross had passed all the patient-compliant medical sign-offs. As with most Starfleet officer regulations, the need for Doctors to communicate regarding your well-being, etc., was between Dr. Gavin and Counselor Kildare at this point.

“I don’t think so, at least not at this point.” Lamia shook her head. “I think if she was removed from duty then it could be another matter entirely, but I have no plans for that.”

"... She understands the breadth of how vital her anger and body's recovery are, both physically and mentally hand in hand?" Ross acknowledged the breadth of wisdom that now belongs to Counselor Kildare.

"I would love to be able to sit in one of these sessions if I could see where Emily's headframe is. When I see her for medical follow-ups, it would be interesting to observe as a colleague. I have a Psychology background..." He gestured. "That's if you're up to allowing me in a meeting. It is client/counselor privilege above all else."

“I’d appreciate that actually” Lamia nodded. “I could use the extra help with this, it’s a difficult case all round.”

Alright, well, "Baby before business! Every few hours, stop and take a moment to feel yourself. We practiced your breathing.

Feel your baby, how you're feeling... You know how you are, you can sense yourself." Gavin reminded Lamia Kildaire. He was happy to be part of this pregnancy and delivery. The due date would be fast approaching, and he would be ready. "How is Mr. Kildare? Will he be here for the delivery?" Gavin asked curiously.

“I certainly hope so!” Lamia nodded. “I don’t plan on giving birth without Chris that’s for sure. I guess it will all depend on what’s happening at the time.”

"Of course." Dr. Ross had offered his calm, reassuring smile. Relaxing and assuring. He knew what he was doing, and he had the know-how, as well as the current scientific minds at his call back at Starfleet Medical...

He had then signed off on their appointment, and stated that the supplements she already was taking were appropriate for the time, and she had best be ready." He smiled encouragingly at Lamia.

"As for the Emily Janeway patient case, I believe we continue working with all the bio staffers, and hope she turns around..."

"Other questions you may have, Counselor Kildaire?" Gavin had cocked his head sideways, curious.

“I think you’ve answered all I have for now Doctor, thank you very much. I’ll arrange that sit in session with Emily for you to observe.” She smiled politely as she stood to leave.
