Mission: S04 Episode 02 The Hackers Backdoor (Main)
Location: USS Tomcat
Timeline: Post briefing

ON:

K'muss was glad to be back on the Tomcat, but a little nervous to meet the new boss . Nervous in that he was coming back to the rifles, but also because he read the new COs name. He couldn't help but think of the Captain of Voyager as he rang the door chime.

Come on in, Warrant Officer K’Muss!” Major Emily Janeway called out, her voice bright and inviting. She stood from her desk, flashing a genuine smile. “It’s great to see you back on the Tomcat! Excited to get back in the saddle with the rifles?”

"It's great to be back, Major!" K'muss said. He returned the smile. "And I am very excited! On the starbase I was stuck behind a desk. I'm very glad to be back in the field, and back home to boot."

Major Janeway chuckled softly, her eyes sparkling with approval. “A desk job on a starbase? No wonder you’re itching to get back in action, K’Muss. The Tomcat’s where you belong.” She gestured to a chair across from her desk. “Take a seat. The rifles are gearing up for some intense drills with this Hackers Backdoor situation—expect some unconventional threats. Got any ideas from your starbase days that might help us out?”

He gladly took the offered seat "None, unfortunately. They head me doing logistics." Then it hit him. "Of course! There were requests for some strange supplies for this area that we're headed for. But it was coded for the fleet personnel, so I couldn't see what exactly they were. It was "captains eyes only". He said

Major
Janeway nodded thoughtfully, her warm smile giving way to a focused glint in her eyes. “Logistics on a starbase, huh? Bet you saw all kinds of requisitions cross that desk, K’Muss.” She leaned back, tapping a finger on her desk. “Those things sound interesting’ supplies sound like they could be critical for this Hackers Backdoor mission—maybe something beyond standard gear. Speaking of which, any scuttlebutt from the starbase about ammunition? Extra phaser packs, photon grenades, or maybe something specialized we should request for the rifles? I want us locked and loaded for whatever’s waiting in that sector.” She gestured toward him, inviting his input. “And I’m serious about those holodeck sims—think of them as something that we could add to our rifles especially phaser Carbine rifles.”

"I think we should be fine, weaponry wise. After all, it's the shooter, not the weapon. Or so they tell me. And the rifles can outshoot most anyone. But phaser carbines sound amazing! Also som TR 116s, they pack quite a punch "

Emily listens carefully to him as she says “ perhaps the training area range and perhaps show me your best skills.”

"I'd be glad to." K'muss said. "It'd be good to get some range time in "

Major Janeway leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with enthusiasm at K’Muss’s suggestion. “TR-116s, huh? Now you’re speaking my language, Warrant Officer. Those rifles have a reputation for punching through just about anything—perfect for whatever surprises this ‘Hackers Backdoor’ mission might throw at us.” She paused, her expression turning thoughtful. “I like your confidence in the team’s skills.
‘It’s the shooter, not the weapon’—well said. Let’s put that to the test.”

She stood, motioning toward the door. “How about we head to the training range now? I want to see you and the rifles in action. Let’s set up a hologram sim with some of those unconventional threats I mentioned—maybe a few holo-targets mimicking cloaked hostiles or adaptive drones to keep things spicy. You pick the scenario parameters; I’m curious to see what you’d prioritize for the team’s prep.” She flashed a friendly little grin. “And don’t hold back. If you’ve got any tricks from your starbase days, now’s the time to show me what you’ve

Janeway added, “Oh, and about those ‘captains’ eyes only’ requisitions—keep your ears open. If you hear any scuttlebutt about what’s in those crates, I want to know. Could be the difference between us being ready or being caught flat-footed. Deal?”

"You got it!" K'muss replied. "Ready whenever you are. And I'll definitely keep my ears out for scuttlebutt. And I'll definitely do my best." He smiled.

Janeway smiles back as she walks to the door of her office “ how about today we go over there and see what we can see or we can do having to train ourselves, and we could even start with BB guns on the shooting as plucking targets practice, which we can do that on the Holo sims

"Works for me!" K'muss replied. "We could also play an old earth game for training. I think they called it "paintball". Helps with shooting on the move."
.”

Janeway looks back at him with an happy smile expression on her face as she stood before him at the door “ perhaps we can do something together “ she looking at schedule for openings for the hologram.

"I'm free anytime, Major " K'muss replied. "I'll look to see if any holodecks are doing to free any time soon. Also make the paintball weapons resemble our own "

Major Janeway leaned back in her chair, her office’s stark walls adorned only with a single Starfleet Marine Corps emblem—a deep Kelly Green delta with crossed rifles—symbolizing the Corps’ “Every Marine a Rifleman” ethos. She fixed K’Muss with a steady gaze, her tone blending authority with camaraderie. “Warrant Officer K’Muss, you’ve been out there with the rifles, and now you’re back on the Tomcat—our home, our fight. As your CO, my job is to make sure you and the team are ready to hit the ground running for this ‘Hackers Backdoor’ op. We’re Marines, not desk jockeys, so I’m counting on you to bring that field edge to our prep.”

She tapped a PADD on her desk, pulling up the mission brief. “Let’s talk training. I want you to design a holodeck sim for the rifles—something that’ll test our ability to adapt to whatever this sector’s throwing at us. Think fast-paced, like an ambush in tight quarters or a breach-and-clear against cloaked targets. You’ve seen action; what’s a scenario you’d drill to keep us sharp?” She leaned forward, her voice firm.

Janeway’s eyes glinted with a hint of challenge. “Oh, and about that paintball idea—let’s make it happen in holographic program sometime later on for those free time but I want our TR-116s simulated, too. We’ll start with BB guns for fun, but Marines don’t play soft. Semper Fi, K’Muss—show me what you’ve got. What’s your next step for getting the team locked and loaded?”

"Semper Fi! Ooh rah!"" K'muss replied.

Janeway leaned back into her chair. Looked at him again as she then asked him “ will there be anything else you need to ask me as far as this meeting is concerned?” She nodded and asked him.

"I think I'm good with information so far " he said.

Janeway’s lips curled into a fierce grin as she shot to her feet, her presence filling the room like a photon blast. “Good? Warrant Officer, good doesn’t cut it for Marines—we aim for unstoppable! Get to that holodeck and craft a simulation that’ll make the rifles sweat blood: a breach-and-clear op with cloaked hostiles and adaptive drones that hit harder than a Klingon warhammer. This ‘Hackers Backdoor’ mission’s gonna test us, and I want us forged in fire.” She jabbed a finger toward the door, her voice a rallying cry. “Hit the range first—set up a live-fire drill with TR-116s against holo-Jem’Hadar that vanish mid-fight. And that paintball idea? Program it to mimic our rifles’ kick so we’re moving and shooting like a single, lethal machine.”

"Aye Major. I'll definitely do all of that.' K'muss said.

Major Janeway Nodded and said “That’s the rifleman’s edge I need, K’Muss! Make that sim a firing range from hell—Jem’Hadar cloaking, drones weaving, every target testing your aim. Lock in that TR-116 paintball drill to keep us sharp and synchronized, strictly by the book. Whatever the Captain’s got for ‘Hackers Backdoor,’ my rifles will hit like a photon storm. Semper Fi—dismissed and make every shot count!” Semper Fi!” Janeway responded.
