Mission:
S04 Episode 02 The Hackers Backdoor (Incidentals)
Location: Sick Bay, USS Tomcat
Timeline: Shore-Leave
[ON:]
Ross was already in Sickbay when they came through the doors... PADD in one hand... scanner warming on the biobed like it had been waiting... Eighteen weeks... that was the point... early enough people still argued about it... late enough a proper scan could usually tell if the baby cooperated...
Maggie was the reason the room went still... not Todd... not him... her...
Todd came in half a step in front of her anyway... cocky like always... one hand hovering at her back like the deck itself might trip her... He clocked Ross too fast... didn't like him... never had... too smooth... too easy with a smile...
"You can stand down, Hewitt..." Ross said, not unkind... "She's the patient... you're the father... I got both of those filed..."
Maggie rolled her eyes. Men. They were all the same, weren't they?! She smiled at the doctor. Their last meeting hadn't ended well; Maggie hadn't been ready for the news yet.
Todd snorted... "Yeah I bet you do, Doc... just don't get charming... she ain't here for your bedside manner..."
Ross's mouth gave a wry smile... small... "Noted... I’m here for her and the baby... that's it..." He looked past Todd to Maggie... voice dropping the banter...
"Come on in... we'll get you up on the bed and settled... nothing flashy... just a scan... if the little one’s in a good position we should be able to see what we’re looking for today..."
He angled the display away from Todd on purpose... respectful enough... still leaving the room hers...
"Whenever you're ready, Maggie... we'll take it slow..."
Maggie sighed, but carefully settled down onto the biobed. She was wearing a very un-Maggie like outfit-jeans, and a blouse, her stomach announcing her before anything else did. She normally went all-out with her appearance off the clock, but today, she was tired.
"Thank you, Doctor Ross," she said. "Todd, stop it, please," she said. "So...I think we're doing ok. I am exercising, he's making me eat and drink water, taking vitamins," she said, and then pointed at Todd. He watched them carefully all the time; making sure they were taken care of. Most of the time she didn't mind, but sometimes she felt a little smothered.
Todd then looked away for a moment...
He could feel that he was a bit in the way, and he had wanted Maggie to have her time with the Doctor. Hewitt looked at the Sick Bay... "Uh... Doc... I know you have a sub-zero unit that needs a check-up... I will get to that." He offered a guns-down nod and then winked to Maggie.
Todd then walked off to the back of the sickbay to the unit requiring a small adjustment...
"My apologies. Good. So you are taking your vitamins. It is good that you have been on schedule. I will be taking a blood analysis, as well as your amino acids and prenatal enzymes... At this stage of the pregnancy, I just want to ensure that your Human and El-Aurian cell matrices are working on their best receptors..." Ross turned his attention to the screen.
"I know it can be hard at this time. How have your feelings been? I can tell you are a bit tired. Is this from Todd? Has this happened recently, your tiredness? I can sense..." Gavin lent a smile. He then turned to the Fractal Resonance Ultra-Sound Array. And then gently pulled the overarching display to just above Maggie's medium-swelling baby bump...
Maggie smiled lightly. "Honestly, it started from the beginning. I think it's the pregnancy as well as a new position. Plus I am always irritated that I can't fly," she said. Hrrmph. She was still grumpy about that part. "And yes, some of it is Todd," she said, smiling slyly.
"Please, relax Maggie... You can lay down... This might be while." Ross helped her legs up onto the bed to allow her body to rest...
Maggie laid back, and sank into the bed. It WAS nice to lay there for a bit.
"Can you have Todd come back, please? He wants to know, too," she asked Ross.
"Ok. I am going to do a full blood workup... As I said. Just relax now while I take this sample... It won't hurt the baby or you." He once again lent a smile, offering kindness and calmness. The hypo-spray was then pressed to her belly gently. Depressing the spray with a 'hiss sound'...
Maggie nodded. "Ok," she said. She let out breath as she calmed down and let Ross work.
Gavin had heard the request. It sounded like this was Maggie's wish. "Of course, understood, Maggie."
"There is also the option of you finding out first, and then telling Todd. Or do you simply wish to find out together?" Ross asked these questions because, with so many different species in Medical situations such as revealing a birth gender, there were protocols for revealing such information.
"We want to find out together," she said.
"Alright. I have my samples now..." Ross collected the hypo spray results and DNA from Maggie for further testing.
Gavin taped his com badge =/\= Mr. Hewitt. Would you please join us now? =/\=
No longer than 35 seconds had passed, Todd emerged from the back of the Sickbay, setting down a tool along the way... His face fixed on Maggie.
"I'm here... Do we know yet?" He looked to Dr. Ross. Dr. Ross simply shook his head.
"I have the results on my screen."
Todd then stood next to Maggie at the front of the bed. His face was calm, collected, and looking at Maggie's baby bump. This was exciting!
Maggie let out another breath, and then smiled. "Ok, doc, we're ready."
Ross nodded. He then turned the emitting blue, huge 3D display matrix console and pointed at the child. "You are having a very healthy baby boy." Ross beamed, always happy to convey a pivotal moment in life to a young couple.
"As you can clearly see, the baby boy is clearly defined within the display, right around these areas." Ross circled his finger around.
Maggie let out a noise that sounded like a cross between a yell and a laugh. "A boy?!" She said, excitedly. "Oh, my god, Todd. We're having a son," she said, before she started to tear up again.
"Gee-Golly!" Todd beamed. "Are you sure, Doctor Ross?!" His face beamed. He looked at Maggie and her baby bump and then leaned in to scrutinize the display. "That's him... Right there! Our lil' Champ!?"
"That is indeed your little champ! All healthy. And doing quite well." Ross smiled back at Maggie and Todd.
Maggie beamed, and took Todd's hand in hers. "Look. A baby...." Now it really felt real.
"Now, Maggie. Do you have any questions for the good Doctor?" Hewitt suddenly realized that he indeed knew what he was doing. oO Hockey, Basketball, Soccer, Off-roading... Not... NEVER GOLF...Oo oO Not Ever! Oo
She shook her head. "Yeah. When will the fatigue stop?" she asked. She could barely stay awake these days. "And uh...I know I can't fly anymore, but when will I have to stop doing heavy exercises?" She asked.
"The heavy exercises stop now. Are you referring to Gymnasium exercise and/or Fighter training exercises on the holodeck?" Ross took his PADD and once again reviewed the bloodwork and scans of Mrs. Hewitt.
"Both," Maggie said.
"Your fatigue can be attributed to lower Iron levels as well as a bit of an amino acid imbalance. Nothing that would harm your child, since you are experiencing the lows that are left due to your Iron levels being diverted to the unborn child." Ross checked it off. "This would account for your levels of fatigue."
Ross then turned to his gravitating side table of medical tools. "I will give you a boost of Iron, as this will help level out your fatigue. If you need to blow off steam, you can take Fighter simulators at your choice, but only on Safety Level One."
Maggie nodded. "Is there anything else I can do? Vitamins? Eating certain foods?" She asked. Anything to keep her baby healthy and happy.
"Well. Considering that all the food is regulated for nutritional value, regardless of the replicator used." Ross looked up the Hewitt's Replicator. "I have already allotted a dietary contingent based on your command, Maggie. Unless." He lent a glance to Todd. "Todd has been ordering your food. My mistake. I will add in a nutrient factor regardless of who is using the voice database or DNA imprint into the replicator LCARs interface." Ross then changed the Doctor's prescription on his PADD and then entered it into the sickbay updates. "Your replicator should now be offering Pregnancy Term Based nutrition to your current pregnancy status as monitored."
"If you wish to eat more fruits, vegetables, high-protein meats, that is nonetheless a good foundation. But you will get the same nutrients if you choose to eat Sundaes and Fried Foods." Gavin turned to Todd. "Not to be abused, though."
Maggie nodded. "Ok, thank you," she said. Ross must've not read her file. Her problem wasn't the KIND of foods she ate, it was the amount. Still.
"Thank you for that information, Ross," she said. "I appreciate that. It hadn't occurred to me that you could do that." Maggie was surprised by that, but she supposed it made sense.
"I don't think I have any more questions," she said. She turned to look at Todd. "How about you?" She asked.
Todd kept his mouth shut. He then slowly nodded. He had all the questions he needed answered. "Thank you, Doctor. We appreciate your help." He gave a sincere smile.
