Mission:
S04 Episode 02 The Hackers Backdoor (Incidentals)
Location: Engineering
The turbolift doors parted with a soft hydraulic sigh, and 1st Lieutenant S’earr had to dip his head slightly just to clear the frame. Even then, his broad shoulders came uncomfortably close to brushing both sides as he stepped out onto the deck of Engineering. The low hum of the warp core filled the space, a steady, reassuring thrum, one that seemed to falter, if only for a moment, as a few crew members noticed him.
At 7’6”, S’earr was impossible to ignore. White fur marked with bold black striping, musculature built for a predator, not just strength, but explosive power shifted beneath his uniform as he moved with controlled, deliberate steps.
A Caitian Marine was not unheard of. One of his size? That was another matter entirely.
He entered Engineering and sought to grab the attention of someone without disrupting the routine of the room or the department.
Thex smiled to herself as she finished with the latest round of phaser batteries that had passed their inspection and were now quietly charging away in the slots. Another job finished.
Stepping outside to see what other tasks needed doing, her blue eyes were drawn to the very tall stranger in their mists. " Hello there, can i help you with something?" She enquired.
S'earr turned his attention to the voice addressing him, met with a striking combination of blue crowned with white hair Andorian. "Ma'am, 1st Lieutenant S'earr, the new MCO." The customary bow of the head of respect afforded all females. "I am seeking some assistance with an accommodation matter. I am large and considerable in weight as you can see. I am hoping to get some furniture fabricated to accommodate such factors such as chairs, a sofa and an obviously larger and stronger bed?"
Suggesting that the usual fittings in rooms could not support nor big enough for the large Caitian, a detail he discovered very early on in his career.
" Sounds simple enough. " Thex replied, turning and heading towards her small office. " Let's go and take a look through the catalogue, someone may have already created a template."
"Thank you." S'earr responded as he followed. This seemed to be going far smoother than his earlier lay overs at previous assignments where getting some suitable accommodations seemed like a political summit.
Stepping into her office, Thex stepped to the side of the holotable she used for design work. " Okay, let's get you seen to. Can i have you're mesurments and weight?" she asked politely.
S'earr had come to learn that such information was a delicate topic for some humanoid species, Humans especially, females even more so and for Caitians it was even then still a private matter. To him however the ordeal was made easy, a female was asking, traditional gender standing compelled his answer without much thought. "2.31 meters at the ear tip. Approximately 230kg."
Thex noted the quickness of his reply. Looked like their marine officer was straight to the point. Which was good. The number of devil dogs who lied about modifications they made to their personal equipment was always annoying. She did wonder what the new marine officer would make of her relationship with Ross.
" Okay." She said calmly as the computer ran through the results. " Nothing loaded in the database. I could send off a data request for anything in the central engineering archives, but I'm sure you're eager to get it done ASAP so shall I get to work? " she said politely.
"I am, thank you." Action...prompt, willing action. Far better than his previous experiences to say the least. He was looking forward to having to sit in a chair that was far more comfortable than the slimline backrests and seating sizes that were far too small for him. Keen to sleep in a bed again that was build for his size without his feet dangling out of the end and causing ankle pains.
He knew he'd have to get a chair for his office, and anywhere else one might be required.
Thex's blue hands began dancing over the console. " It's should be easy enough to make the furniture bigger and stronger. What will you be needing ?" She enquired.
"One bed, I'm aware it will no doubt take up the whole room, which is acceptable. One dining chair and table, a sofa, a bean bag if possible to suit my size and weight being suddenly placed on it without bursting, as they are comfortable to rest with. Cutlery and plates i can replicate, I believe that is all." S'earr answered after some thought.
" I could create a bed that extends outwards to give you a little more room when you're not using it." Thex suggested.
"That would be useful, thank you." S'earr answered, having space while also having a suitable bed of a suitable size and strength was a welcome addition to it's design.
" Okay, which of these designs would you like." Thex said, tapping a few buttons to bring up a selection of holograms, each showing several different bed designs that could be extended out.
S'earr looked at the design options and picked out that had a sand coloured base. It reminded him of home when he first saw it. "This one please." He stopped the image on the design he meant.
" Okay. I'll get that into the industrial replicator and beamed to your quarters as soon as it done." Thex said with a smile as she brought up some designs for the table and chairs. " Which of these would you like and would you like them to be collapsible?"
"Solid frame is acceptable, I do not see my needing to collapse anything." S'earr spoke as he looked through the designs for furniture. "For the table and chair, would it be acceptable to send you designs from the homeworld for fabrication?"
"Of course. It may take a little longer to replicate due to the new designs, but it shouldn't be more than a day or two. Depending on how much is in the que to be replicated." the andorian replied honestly.
"That is acceptable, a few more days for something cultural is worth it." S'earr replied. "It will not be the first instance where I've slept rough." A painful truth for many marines. "I do not wish to take up too much of your time, I feel I have taken up too much with this simple request as it is."
Thex grinned. " I can get you the bed by the end of the third shift. One of the industrial replicators has just finished it's load so we can squeeze you in. It will be a few more days for the rest of the furniture."
"My thanks." S'earr spoke, providing the deck and section his quarters were on, not that she needed it, she could easily determine that herself but she provided it anyway. "I will make sure to keep the room clear for installation." Not that he had much to put away just yet anyway.
" I'll make sure to give you a call before is start beaming it in." Thex said with a smile. "Anything else you need?" She enquired.
"Nothing, thank you ma'am. I have taken up enough of your time." S'earr was sure that there were more important things that had to be done keeping the ship operating than dealing with his furniture requirements. He bowed again in parting then headed for the door.
" I'll see you around." Thex replied as she watched him go.
