Maggie had failed to make her regular scheduled doctors appointment for the birth control shot and she'd ALSO failed to ensure that Todd had, too.
Because she was certain that now that they were going to be married and she wasn't going to be able to date around like she had in the past, she hadn't taken it too seriously. This morning? NOW she was in full panic mode, though. It was too fast, too soon, too..whatever. Maggie's mind moved a million miles an hour-always overthinking, worrying. Except when she was flying. Then she was calm, cool, collected. It was the only thing in her life that she hadn't fucked up and it was what she lived for...besides Todd. Oh, god, she was going to have to start TELLING people, too.
She entered the sickbay.
"I am here for Dr. Ross. I have an appointment but I am a few minutes early," she said. For once in her life but this wasn't time to mess around. She'd come directly from duty, only stopping to toss her helmet in her locker.
"Lieutenant LeFebvre," Ross had casually walked out from one of the storage rooms. He waffed away any smoke from the fresh cigarette he had just smoked. He had an incredible past few days in the Sick Bay with dual pregnancies, twins, and an isolation incident with Matthews.
"It seems you are on time for once this millennium." Gavin secretly enjoyed "Maggie" or Margurite. She was human; she wasn't a 'yes', 'no' catatonic type of recruit or officer here for an appointment that seemed to always be in their way. She shared, she vented, she laughed, they laughed. But in a friendship sort of way.
"What can I do for you. Well, more like..." He pulled up his medical padd with Lt. LeFebvres Medical Logs. "It seems what could I have done for you..." He raised his left brow at Maggie as he led her over to a sick bay bio bed. "You seem to be past your shot for... Well. You know." He prompted.
Maggie made a face as she followed Gavin towards a biobed. "WELLLLLLLL....." she looked around and dropped her voice an octave. "How soon after...you know...can you tell if you're pregnant? It's been a week, and we-I-was late with my shot and...Todd and I..."
Oh no, this was the worst thing to have happened to her. Ever. Even worse than that one time on Telpan. Oh nooo.
"Anyway. If it looks good, let's do the shot bc yes, I am getting married but I am NOT ready to be a pregnant bride," she said. Maybe she should see the Counselor. She hadn't, not since the first time she'd been FORCED to for her yearly when she first joined the Fleet. She'd managed to weasel out of the rest.
“Wait a minute.” Ross’s jaw dropped a bit as his face flushed. “Maggie. This is worse than Telpan…” He held the bio to his chest and then laughed. He then bit his lower lip and furrowed a stifle of laugh.
She gave him a LOOK. "Not funny. The Karemma nearly killed me!" She said, shaking her head.
“Seriously. Lemme give it an ol’” He easily ran the Medical Tricorder with the detached scanner holding it over top of Maggie's chest and mid section… The readings are coming up on his screen.
“You're in Phase IV Vivo Fertilization Ovum 003V.43 to be precise. There is neural activity, however, at this point nothing of sympathetic consequence. He reminded Maggie, as he would any patient, as required under the Federation Health Authority.
"SO....there's a...zygote?" She asked. That changed everything. This was a decision she couldn't make on her own. Not anymore.
"The shot is ready. Are you?" It would clear Maggie for the next round of control, having missed for like a week, simply with little to no notice of anything having ever happened. It was nice that they would be able to get married accordingly.
"NO. I need to talk about it with Todd," she said. "He's the dad," she said. He knew that. "Can you call him, you think? He can't kill me in here," she said.
Hewitt had left his Engineering post as he was called by Doctor Ross to discuss something. It had proved curious for Hewitt. All of his medical reports have always been glowing; nothing has ever gone wrong. At a mere 100 years old, he was still considered young for an El Aurian.
Entering the Sickbay, his tall and lanky self, he walked through and noticed Maggie seated on one of the bio beds near the back of the medical layout.
"Mags." He poked his head through Ross's office doorway, still curious. "What you doin' here, G?"
"Oh, uh...I came to see Ross because I was late for my birth control and....uh....Well...I don't want to get pregnant. Not yet. We should be married first for at least a DAY," she said. She sighed deeply.
Ross leaned back in his seat and let Maggie tell what she had to Lt. JG. Hewitt.
Maggie leaned forward and socked Gavin in his arm. "Help me out here," she hissed.
"Jesus.." Ross furrowed. "You're a thankful one. Gawd." He then got up. "Mr.... Erm. Lieutenant JG Hewitt." Ross had turned from his tricorder scan of Margurite. "You have both successfully fertilized a cell. It has not matured. You both have a decision to make; it's a technically very common situation at this stage in the fertilized egg. It's only been a few days, save a week." Gavin cleared his throat and looked at Maggie. He then pinched her on her shoulder. Ross was unimpressed as he left for a cigarette.
Maggie stared hard. "It's...fertilized? Like....you know? An actual zygote?" She made a face.
"God. He is Bitchy or What?!" Todd furrowed as he rubbed Maggie on her shoulder. I'm going to give him a piece of my first..."
Maggie made a noise. "Me, first," she said. "Listen, we gotta talk about this," she said, standing up. "Here, help me," she said, pulling on her tunic. "Do we want to...keep it? Or?? I am going to get fat, you know," she said.
Hewitt nodded slowly. He listened to Maggie, he WAS a listener after all.
"I understand, Maggie, Baby, what you're feeling." He moved closer, standing and holding her to his chest as he furrowed his brow in thought and leaned his head to meet hers, concern for his Wife-to-be.
"I will respect and understand truly any decision you make. It is your body. 100%. I wouldn't harvest any resentment if you..." Hewitt thought it over. "Do not feel ashamed. We have this cultural practice on El Auria as well."
He lent his larger engineering hand to rubbing up and down slowly, with thoughts in mind. "We must do this as soon as possible." He understood Maggie. "I want you to know. If you are distressed by this in any way, I will be there for you here and after." He held her hand in his tight.
She let out a sigh. "Ok, let's go eat and talk,"she said. She must REALLY feel badly if she needed to eat something big and greasy. Ugh. "Maybe we should see the counselor,' she said, making a face. She wasn't one to do that, either.
"ROSS," Maggie hollered. "We're leaving. I'll see you later," she said, and dipped out into the corridor with Todd.
Todd was confused. "Ok. So, what are we up to? We have our flex time, we took off... He bit his lower lip, grunting... feeling up around from underneath the left of Maggie's shorter, smaller waist, and tickling her from underneath...
Maggie giggled, but led him down the corridor and to the Turbolift, then to her quarters.
